Alex Garland is reportedly eyeing Kit Connor to lead the cast of his upcoming Elden Ring movie.
The 55-year-old filmmaker has held talks with the 21-year-old actor according to Deadline, who starred in Garland’s recent film Warfare. There is no offer on the table for Garland’s follow-up, but sources say both parties are interested pending schedule availability.
Garland, known for directing Ex Machina and Annihilation, is developing a live-action version of Elden Ring for A24. The project is still in early development, but early buzz around casting hints at a bold approach to adapting FromSoftware’s dark fantasy world. If the talks move forward, Connor may be stepping into the boots of the Tarnished-an exile with the job of restoring order across the war-torn Lands Between.
For the original game, Elden Ring drops players into a huge, open world full of twisted demigods, lost legacies, and brutal combat. The Tarnished character in the game is customizable, meaning Garland has leeway in shaping the role for a live-action narrative. With the rising star power of Connor and Garland’s reputation for mind-bending stories, this could prove to be a standout entry in the video game movie genre.
Meanwhile, the Elden Ring universe expands with the release of Elden Ring: Nightreign by FromSoftware yesterday; this is the franchise’s first spin-off to focus on multiplayer gaming. Now out on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC, Nightreign casts a darker tone in co-op survival gameplay and pits players against terrifying foes called the Nightlords.
According to director Junya Ishizaki, Nightreign also contains post-game content for those who defeat the Nightlords. “We’ve implemented some post-game or end-game aspect for players once they’ve cleared all of the Nightlords,” Ishizaki said to IGN. “There’s enough core content to satisfy players, but beyond that, we have the unlocking of relics and new relic rites to really enrich the gameplay.”
This expansion of the Elden Ring world, both in film and gaming, is a major step for the franchise. It is quite unusual for such a challenging and lore-heavy game like Elden Ring to enter mainstream media, but with the vision of Garland and the track record held by A24, it is most definitely in good hands.
For the time being, however, fans will simply have to wait and see if Kit Connor officially joins the Elden Ring movie. With any luck, he may be navigating the Lands Between shortly on the big screen, fighting past demigods, discovering hidden truths, chasing the throne of Elden Lord.
Stay tuned for further development of the Elden Ring movie.
