If you’ve recently stocked up on canned goods, it’s probably a good idea to go check your pantry: the Vietti Food Group has issued a recall on over 4,500 cases of its Yellowstone Brown Sugar Molasses Baked Beans because of a serious allergen concern: undeclared soy.
This recall, announced on May 2, 2025, is for specific 15-ounce cans that contain the lot code “Best if Used By Feb 17, 2028” printed on the bottom. The baked beans in question were sold in more than 20 states, including Texas, Florida, Illinois, New York, and North Carolina.
Soy would appear to be innocuous to the majority. However, for those individuals who suffer from an allergy or sensitivity to soy, even a minute amount can cause severe or life-threatening reactions. Thus, the problem in this case is that the label does not indicate soy among the ingredients, and therefore it presents an invisible risk for allergic people:
No illnesses have been reported to date, but health officials and Vietti Food Group are urging caution.
This recall may concern you if you reside in one of these states:
Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia
If you have a can that matches the lot code, don’t eat it, even if you don’t have a soy allergy. The safest thing you can do is to return it to the store it was purchased from for a full refund.
