Aldi Confirms 18 New Stores Across Florida – See the Full List & Opening Dates

If you’re in Florida and love a good grocery bargain, Aldi just made your week. The fan-favorite discount chain, often called “better than Trader Joe’s” by loyal shoppers, is opening 18 brand-new stores across the Sunshine State, with the first one opening in just a few days.

This is part of Aldi’s record-breaking 2025 expansion, which includes 225 new stores across the U.S., its most aggressive growth year yet.

First Stop: Ocala, Florida, Opening June 5

One of the first new Florida stores is opening in Ocala on Thursday, June 5. And Aldi is kicking things off with serious perks:

  • Free gift bags with Aldi fan favorites for the first 100 shoppers
  • A chance to win a $500 gift card through the weekend
  • Deep discounts on grocery staples right from Day 1

Matt Thon, Aldi’s regional VP, says the goal is simple: “We want to give customers the best products at the lowest prices of any national grocer.”

Why Florida?

Florida is central to Aldi’s expansion strategy. Of the 400 stores Aldi acquired from Southeastern Grocers, nearly 75% are located in Florida.

Aldi CEO Jason Hart explained it clearly: “With the acquisition of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets, Aldi will serve even more communities in the Southeast, bringing us closer to customers in a region where we’ve already seen massive demand.”

Translation: Florida wants Aldi, and Aldi is delivering.

Aldi vs. Trader Joe’s? Fans Have Opinions

Even as Aldi scales, fan loyalty is going nowhere. Some even say Aldi is better than Trader Joe’s. On Facebook, one shopper wrote:

“Unpopular opinion: Aldi is better than Trader Joe’s! Ok, bye!”

Others chimed in saying Trader Joe’s feels too chaotic, and Aldi’s layout and flower section are easier to navigate. It’s the kind of grocery debate we love to see.

PAA (People Also Ask)

When is Aldi opening new stores in Florida?

Starting June 5, 2025, with stores rolling out throughout the year in cities like Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando.

Is Aldi taking over Winn-Dixie stores?

Yes. Aldi acquired 400+ Winn-Dixie and Harveys stores and is converting many of them into Aldi-format stores, especially across the Southeast.

Why is Aldi so cheap?

Aldi cuts costs with a no-frills layout, minimal staff, private-label products, and coin-operated carts, passing those savings to customers.

Absolutely. The company plans to open 225 stores nationwide in 2025, the largest expansion year in Aldi U.S. history.

If you live in Florida, keep an eye out for a brand-new Aldi opening near you. Between rock-bottom prices, cleaner layouts, and customer giveaways, the grocery store scene just got a lot more interesting.
