Alden Song Talks Afro House Debut ‘Tekera’ With Iti

With every release, Alden Song keeps stretching his sound into new directions.

His latest single, ‘Tekera’, made alongside South African DJ and producer Iti, is a bold departure from his Tech House roots. Venturing into Afro House, Alden delivers a track where groove, melody, and vocals meet, showing a more melodic and emotional side to his artistry.

In this exclusive interview, Alden talks about how the collaboration came together, what it was like stepping outside his comfort zone, and why ‘Tekera’ marks a defining moment in his journey.

Hi Alden, how are you?

Hi guys, I’m doing well! Thanks for having me.

What first sparked your collaboration with Iti? How did that creative relationship begin?
We were both students at Icon Collective when we met. We shared a passion for DJing and making music, and that drove us to create multiple songs together.

‘Tekera’ feels like a big step forward. How was the process different from your solo releases?

‘Tekera’ is definitely a curveball in my discography since it’s Afro House. It pushed me to focus on melody and longer arrangements. I’m a sucker for a strong chord progression, and this track reminded me of that.

Afro House has a strong identity. How did you approach it authentically?

The other half of this song is Iti. He’s from South Africa and knows this genre deeply. With my Tech House background and his Afro House roots, we combined both worlds. It took me outside my comfort zone, but in the best way.

How did you divide roles in the studio?

The process was very natural. We didn’t even plan to release it, we just created. We bounced ideas back and forth and took turns at the computer. Working with Iti really brought out a more melodic side of me.

The vocal is powerful in ‘Tekera’. What role did it play in shaping the song?

We were very particular about the vocal. It’s raw, moving, and gives the track its emotional weight. It fits perfectly with what we wanted.

The production balances atmosphere and intensity. How did you manage that?

For me, dance music is all about tension and release. On ‘Tekera’, we focused on long sweeps and falls, nothing abrupt. Percussion and melody both drive that energy.

Did you and Iti have the same vision from the start, or did it evolve?

We both wanted an Afro House track, that was clear. From there, it was just ideas flowing naturally. No forced compromises, just a smooth process.

Where do you imagine ‘Tekera’ resonating most live?

I always pictured it as a sunrise song. That rising moment with hands in the air, that’s where it feels right. But honestly, I’d also love to hear it at a Keinemusik set.

Looking back, what are you most proud of with this track?

The song as a whole. It’s special because Iti and I are close friends, and to release something after Icon Collective closed means a lot. It represents me expanding my horizons.

What’s next for you? Any new projects coming?

Iti and I have more songs, but those are under wraps for now. I do have another release coming soon called ‘Spin’. It’s darker, more clubby, but continues the journey.

As Alden reflects on ‘Tekera’, it’s clear this track is more than just a release, it’s a milestone. By blending his Tech House roots with Afro House rhythms and Iti’s influence, he’s opened a new creative chapter. Whether solo or in collaboration, Alden Song is carving a path in electronic music that feels intentional, melodic, and exciting. Fans will want to keep watching as he continues to experiment and evolve.
