Kristin Cavallari is getting real about why she finally let her kids appear on her social media.
The 38-year-old Laguna Beach alum revealed that her children, Camden, 12, Jaxon, 11, and Saylor, 9, have been begging her for years to post them. While she resisted for a long time, Kristin eventually gave in after realizing it just wasn’t realistic to keep them off her platforms forever.
“They have been asking me for years to post them,” she told People in a recent interview. “I guess it was maybe a year and a half ago that I finally posted Camden. He’s almost 13, Saylor is nine, she’ll be 10 in the fall. It’s sort of the curse of being the second or the third kid. They just sort of naturally do what the oldest is doing.”
Kristin admitted that in a perfect world, she would’ve waited until each child turned 12 before allowing them to appear online. But being a public figure and mom of three made it harder to keep that rule consistent across all her kids. “In my perfect world, would they all be 12 [before] deciding if they were posted? Sure. But also, it’s just not realistic.”
Despite her initial hesitations, Kristin says she’s happy she can now share that part of her life with fans. Her kids have always been her top priority since she became a mom, and being able to show that is something she now appreciates. “It is nice for me to be able to show that with people because my kids are the biggest part of my life.
They always have been since I became a mom. And I could only let people in so much without showing my kids, so to be able to now share that world with everybody? People [can] see at the end of the day, I am just a normal mom. That is my life.”
She’s not out here trying to create a picture-perfect version of motherhood either. Kristin says she’s in the thick of it like every other parent. “I’m going to basketball practice and games like every other parent. I’m at school. I was on a field trip last Friday. I am doing all the normal mom things.”
And she hopes people finally see that. Kristin knows the version of her that people have in their heads doesn’t match who she really is. “I think it’s probably good for people to see because I think people’s idea of me is very different than who I actually am.”
Kristin shares her three children with ex-husband Jay Cutler, the former NFL quarterback she split from in 2020. Since their divorce, she’s focused on co-parenting and staying grounded as a mom. While fame might be part of her reality, she’s clearly trying to keep things as normal as possible for her kids, even when it comes to deciding whether or not they appear on Instagram.
After years of pressure from her children, it looks like Kristin has finally found a balance between protecting their privacy and letting them have a say in their presence online. The struggle is real for every modern parent, but when you’re a celebrity mom with millions of followers watching, it’s a whole different kind of decision.
