The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a wider public health alert following the detection of higher-than-normal levels of lead in other brands of ground cinnamon sold nationwide.

On October 10, 2025, the FDA released a new warning that included HAETAE-brand and Roshni-brand ground cinnamon, both of which were found to contain unsafe levels of lead. Two days prior, on October 8, the administration had placed Durra and Wise Wife brands on the increasingly long list of recalled products.

“Exposure to these products might be unsafe,” the agency said in its announcement, highlighting the health risks of chronic lead exposure.

Since summer 2024, the FDA has listed 16 ground cinnamon products for elevated lead levels, repeatedly adding to the list as new tests come in. In September 2025, Jiva Organic Ground Cinnamon also was added after test results showed it was contaminated. The agency reported that additional cinnamon samples are still being tested.

Brands Recently Added to the FDA Alert

  • HAETAE Ground Cinnamon — No recall listed on the FDA’s website.
  • Roshni Ground Cinnamon — No recall posted on the FDA site.
  • Durra Ground Cinnamon — Recall made by Eureka Inc. USA.

Wise Wife Ground Cinnamon – Recall made by SLR Food Distribution, Inc. (The company made a voluntary recall in September 2025, officially added to the FDA notice in October).

The FDA says it has recommended voluntary recalls for all of the aforementioned products but HAETAE-brand cinnamon. The agency added that it has failed to reach Haitai Inc. USA to discuss its findings and implement a recall.

Why Lead Exposure Is Hazardous

Although the FDA points out that short exposure to low levels of lead will not result in noticeable symptoms, repeated exposure will result in severe health issues.

Kids are specially vulnerable; extended exposure can result in learning and behavioral problems, delayed development, and irreversible neurological harm.

Adults can suffer from kidney damage, high blood pressure, memory loss, and other neurocognitive impairments.

Signs of Lead Poisoning

In Children:

  • Delayed development
  • Learning impairment
  • Fatigue and irritability

  • Hearing impairment or convulsions

In Adults:

  • Increased blood pressure

The FDA continues to inspect and analyze cinnamon brands available across the country for contamination. Consumers are advised to remain educated using the FDA’s official website and heed all recall warnings to safeguard their health and families.
