Cardi B’s latest court appearance took an unexpected turn when her wig swap left an attorney visibly confused during her ongoing civil assault trial.
The rapper, whose real name is Belcalis Almánzar, testified on Tuesday, August 26, after being sued by a Beverly Hills security guard over an alleged altercation in 2018.
The lawsuit, filed in 2020 by security guard Emani Ellis, accuses Cardi B of physically assaulting her outside a medical office. Ellis claims the rapper cut her face with her fingernails, spat on her, and verbally attacked her while she was secretly pregnant with her first child with Offset. Cardi has consistently denied the accusations, insisting that although there was a heated exchange of words, the dispute never became physical.
During her testimony, Cardi admitted to feeling “cornered” during the incident, which she said led to a shouting match. “I didn’t touch her,” the Grammy winner told the court repeatedly, adding that it was “like a verbal fight, but it didn’t get physical at all.” She also acknowledged telling Ellis, “Bitch, get the f— out of my face.”
But it wasn’t Cardi’s words alone that drew attention in the courtroom. A viral video from the trial shows the rapper swapping her short black pixie wig from the previous day for a long blonde wig, which threw off the attorney questioning her.
At one point, the lawyer asked, “Yesterday you had black hair, short hair. Today it’s blonde and long. Which one is your real hair? Or are they both real?” Cardi laughed before clarifying, “They’re wigs.” The attorney, seemingly embarrassed, responded, “Okay. Sorry, I didn’t know that. It’s a good wig today, then.”
The humorous exchange has since circulated widely online, highlighting Cardi’s candid courtroom personality while the serious legal battle continues. According to Rolling Stone, Cardi maintains that Ellis was the aggressor, claiming the security guard followed and recorded her, sparking the confrontation.
As the trial unfolds, Cardi B’s testimony is drawing as much attention for her bold personality as it is for the allegations. While the lawsuit remains unresolved, her wig swap moment has already gone viral, cementing yet another unexpected pop culture moment from the superstar rapper.
