Actor Alec Baldwin was involved in a car accident on Monday in East Hampton after reportedly crashing his SUV into a tree, according to local authorities.
Police confirmed that while the front of the vehicle was significantly dented, Baldwin fortunately escaped without injuries.
Shortly after the incident, Baldwin took to Instagram to reassure his followers that he was okay and to explain what had happened. “I just want to post a quick message,” he began in the video message. “I got all these inquiries about my car thing this morning – I was in a car accident this morning. I’m fine.”

The 66-year-old actor revealed that his brother, Stephen Baldwin, had been visiting him at the time. The two had just spent the weekend together attending the Buffalo Film Festival before the accident occurred.
According to Baldwin’s account, the crash happened when a large garbage truck unexpectedly cut him off on the road. “A garbage truck the size of a whale cut me off,” he explained. “To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree. I hit a big, fat tree. And crushed my car – my wife’s car. I crashed my wife’s car.”
Baldwin appeared in good spirits as he described the incident, emphasizing that both he and his brother were unharmed. “I feel bad about that,” he added, referring to the damage to his wife Hilaria Baldwin’s vehicle. “But it’s all fine, and I’m fine and my brother’s fine.”
The East Hampton Police Department confirmed Baldwin’s account, noting that the actor had cooperated fully and filed a report following the collision. Baldwin also thanked the department publicly, along with Officer Gerken, for their assistance at the scene. “My wife’s car is pretty smashed up,” Baldwin said in his post. “Pretty big tree, big fat tree.”
Despite the crash, Baldwin kept a positive tone throughout his message, expressing relief that no one was hurt and gratitude toward those who helped. He ended his video by saying he planned to travel to Los Angeles to reunite with his family. “I’m going to LA to see my family – can’t wait,” he said.
