Here’s What to Expect from Nintendo’s March 27 Direct – No, Not the Switch 2

Nintendo confirmed a new Direct presentation is set for March 27, 2025 at 10 AM ET, but gamers still waiting for news regarding Switch 2 are going to have to sit tight.

The company made it quite clear that there would be “no updates about Nintendo Switch 2” in this stream. Instead, the 30-minute presentation will highlight the rest of the Nintendo Switch lineup of games-Generation 1, that is.

Although the next-gen console reveal is still pegged for April 2, this March presentation will help clarify how Nintendo plans to close out the current Switch lifecycle.

What to Expect from the March Nintendo Direct

The announcement makes it clear: it’s all about the OG Switch. That might sound like a letdown to the hardware-hungry fans out there, but there’s plenty to pay attention to:

  • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond: Highly overdue, this will probably be a headlining feature. Gameplay footage and possibly even a release window should be expected.
  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A: The next open-world Pokémon entry set in Lumiose City is already creating hype. This Direct could offer our first real look at mechanics and visual polish.
  • Zelda: Wind Waker for Switch: Still a rumor, but a very persistent one. If this ever drops, it will be a strategic remaster in order to tide people over until the Switch 2.
  • More Remasters or Late Ports: Think “Twilight Princess,” “Xenoblade Chronicles X,” or even sleeper hits like “Kid Icarus: Uprising” making their way from 3DS to Switch.

Why This Direct Still Matters for Switch 2 Owners

Nintendo has already confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backward compatible, which means any new game announcements here are potentially dual-gen titles playable on both current and next-gen hardware. So, if you plan on upgrading, what drops tomorrow still holds value for your Switch 2 library.

Context: Nintendo’s Final Act for Switch 1?

Switch sales have finally leveled off, and with the console approaching eight years old, this feels very much like a last curtain call. That said, Nintendo often saves big surprises for transitional periods-remember how “Breath of the Wild” launched on both Wii U and Switch? – so one should never say never.

For fans, that means two things:

  • You may still get a banger or two on Switch 1 before the next generation begins.
  • Tomorrow’s Direct might hint at which franchises are pivoting towards cross-gen or next-gen focus.

When and Where to Watch

  • Date: March 27, 2025
  • Time: 10:00 AM ET
  • Duration: ~30 minutes
  • Stream Link: Nintendo’s official YouTube or Twitch channels

Bottom Line

No Switch 2 updates, but if you’re a completionist, a collector, or simply someone holding out for one last great title on your trusty old Switch, this Direct is still a must-watch.
