Justin Baldoni Denies Blake Lively’s Alleged Comment as Legal Battle Rages On
Justin Baldoni says Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds wanted him to take the blame for the troubled production of It Ends With Us.
Justin Baldoni has shared what he says is a statement prepared by Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, calling on him to accept blame for the bad publicity surrounding It Ends With Us. Per Baldoni’s lawyers, the couple wanted him to issue a public statement accepting culpability and shifting the blame away from Lively.
However, Baldoni refused to sign off on the statement and thereby escalate the ongoing legal battle between the parties. His team claims that the statement implies guilt without addressing specific concerns and is legally problematic.
The Alleged Statement
Baldoni put out the statement on a newly launched website that contains a series of text messages and emails going back to the first day of production, in which he wrote:
“It Ends With Us was a troubled production which we take full accountability for. We are very sorry to everyone we caused upset to, both privately and publicly.”
“Blake Lively, Colleen Hoover, and the entire cast and crew led with professionalism every step of the way. Any negativity aimed at them is ours to own. We mutually agreed that the cast would be promoting the film separately and understood why.”
“We hold ourselves accountable. It’s not anyone’s job but ours, and that’s part of being ‘man enough.’ We will practice what we preach. We are learning and growing from the experience, and we thank everyone for their patience as we find a better way to proceed.”
Why Baldoni Rejected the Statement

Baldoni and his representatives argue that they wanted nothing to do with the statement because it would become an unfair release of blame on Baldoni’s head, while shielding Lively and Reynolds from criticism. His lawyers said the pair sent warnings of “repercussions” if he refused; one message is alleged to have read, “The gloves will come off.”
This development has come some months after Lively, in December 2024, sued Baldoni for sexual harassment and orchestrating a smear campaign against her. He denied the allegations and countersued for defamation and extortion.
Legal Fallout and What’s Next
With the suit ongoing, both sides in the high-profile battle are digging in still, in a fight that has polarized Hollywood. It is with the release of these documents that Baldoni has reached a turning point, signaling his intent to aggressively challenge Lively’s narrative.
The case has been closely monitored by fans and legal experts alike, as the potential judgment could have wider consequences beyond the individuals, touching on discussions of accountability and industry dynamics.
