Kanye West, who is now legally known as Ye, is ready to fight an intense custody battle if his ex-wife Kim Kardashian moves the court seeking sole custody of their four kids.
The latest drama comes after Kanye’s highly contentious decision to release a song featuring their 11-year-old daughter, North West, against Kim’s objections.
The song is a track with North and Christian “King” Combs, the son of Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently in jail awaiting trial. Kanye posted the song to social media platform X, to much public outcry and debate about how appropriate it is to involve their child in such a highly public controversy.
The fact that he has gone against Kim’s wishes only heightens an already severely tense co-parenting situation. Kardashian is said to have considered filing for sole custody after the latest behavior by the rapper, fearing further unpredictable decisions.
One source close to Kanye also told The U.S. Sun, “Kanye will fight Kim all the way. He and North are very close, and losing custody would devastate him. But he’s surrounded by people enabling his behavior, making a resolution even harder.”
Recently, Kanye’s mental health has come into question due to a slew of erratic social media posts-accusations hurled at Kim and her family included-which further amped up the tension between the former couple. Kanye’s recent posts make it sound like he feels bound by their current custody arrangement, comparing visitation to “being in prison.”
This adds one more to the growing list of Ye’s controversies in the last couple of months, from antisemitic remarks earlier this year to spending time with very questionable public figures. Kanye’s public persona has been under constant fire lately, and the results of this custody battle may affect his personal life and public perception greatly.
For now, Kardashian and West have joint custody after a divorce in 2022 that finally concluded after extensive negotiations. With new, dramatic events unfolding, professionals say this could get particularly litigious.
