Recently, Justin Bieber created quite the stir after he apologized to his wife Hailey Bieber over a mean comment he made against her Vogue cover.
The 31-year-old singer took to Instagram on May 20 to share photos from Hailey’s recent Vogue shoot, but it was his caption that got everyone talking. In a rare moment of candor, Justin shared that during a big fight, he told Hailey she would “never be on the cover of Vogue.”
“Yo, this reminds me when Hailey and I got into a huge fight,” he wrote. “I told Hails that she would never be on the cover of Vogue. Yikes, I know, so mean.” He said he did it because he just felt “so disrespected” and wanted to “get even”. Shortly after, however, he reflected on how those kinds of fights only damage what really matters. “I think as we mature, we realize that we’re not helping anything by getting even,” Justin explained. “We’re honestly just prolonging what we really want, which is intimacy and connection.”
He concluded the post by asking for forgiveness: “So baby, you already know, but forgive me for saying you wouldn’t get a Vogue cover, cuz clearly I was sadly mistaken.” Later, Justin cleared the caption, replacing it with some emojis: a shrug, a pointing finger, a heart hand gesture, and a teary-eyed face-to leave the meaning to the fans.

Fans were divided in their reaction. Many came to Hailey’s defense, calling the caption “hurtful as hell” and saying she deserves “a million Vogue covers.” Some just couldn’t fathom that Hailey would continue on with Justin after he publicly admitted to some pretty rough words about her, including this comment: “No woman deserves that.” On the other side, several fans applauded Justin’s honesty, especially that he didn’t try to create the illusion of a perfect marriage on social media. “At least he is honest and not pretending everything is picture perfect. He’s human and owns his mistakes,” one fan wrote. Others took a lighter tone, reminding everyone that people say dumb things when they’re mad.
In the Vogue interview itself, Justin spoke about Hailey with warmth, naming marrying her “the smartest thing I’ve ever done.” He echoed the intense spotlight she lives under, saying, “She’s in the spotlight and has the attention because of her effortless knack for style, business, art, and fashion. And the way she makes being a mom and wife look easy.”
Hailey said she leans on Justin’s experience with public scrutiny to cope. “I’ve learned so much from Justin, really,” she said. “He’s been doing this literally since he was a child, and he has had to face the most scrutiny of any person that I know. He was like, ‘Baby, trust me, I’ve been here before many, many times. You’re not going to win. There is no winning.'”
The couple married in a civil ceremony in 2018 and celebrated with a star-studded wedding celebration in 2019. The pair welcomed their son, Jack Blues, in August 2024.
Hailey was candid about the harsh realities of postpartum life and her “scary” birth experience in Vogue. She described the period of time after giving birth as “the most sensitive time I’ve ever gone through in my life” and discussed how hard it is to handle online rumors while adjusting to motherhood and a new version of yourself. “Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I’ve ever gone through in my life, and learning a new version of myself is very difficult,” she explained. “And to be doing that all the while going on the internet every day and people being like, ‘They’re getting divorced’ and ‘They’re this’ and ‘They’re not happy,’ it is such a mind-f—-.” She added, “I cannot even begin to explain it. It’s a crazy life to live.” This behind-the-scenes glimpse really shows how complicated and real their life is, far from the curated Instagram feeds.
Justin’s apology and the openness of Hailey make clear that this celebrity couple undergoes the same messy ups and downs as everyone else-but just under the watchful eye of the public.
While it remains to be seen if the fans will also forgive Justin as easily as Hailey has, one thing is quite clear: their story is far from over.
